If you’ve ever had trouble with the law, or even trouble going back and forth with your insurance company after a car accident, you probably already realize the need for a good lawyer. But a good lawyer can do so much more than represent you in court—he or she can do a world of good for the community.
Pro Bono Work
Of course, when most people consider the “good” a lawyer can do for the community, they first think of pro bono services. Pro bono is a type of charity work when a lawyer takes on a case free of charge, simply to help people out of an unfair or sticky situation.
Taking on the Big Guns
But another way in which a lawyer can be good for the community is when a person is being strong-armed, either by the government or by a bigger corporation. In these situations, the individual often has to cave in because he or she simply can’t afford to fight in court. The “strong” take advantage of the “weak,” and many individuals are intimidated and don’t think they can win. But lawyers know differently. Good lawyers aren’t intimidated, and they bring a great amount of confidence to the situation. If a good lawyer is on your side, everyone knows that you’re not about to be strong-armed into doing something you don’t want to do.
Providing a Professional Viewpoint
Lawyers are often the peacekeepers of the neighborhood. Have a disagreement with your neighbor? A lawyer can probably help you out. You usually don’t need to go as far as the courtroom. A lawyer can simply advise you up-front on the law, previous cases, and what would be best for your situation.
Lawyers do a lot of good at the mediation table, but their work extends further than that. It stretches throughout the entire community—scholarships, supporting their neighbors, and contributing their efforts to worthy causes. This type of work is something we take very seriously here at Breyer Law Offices, P.C. Visit our community page to learn more.
