Phoenix, Arizona - Serious personal injury attorneys, Mark and Alexis Breyer, have opened up their 2012 Viral Video Scholarship Contest for entries to all Arizona students. The videos will promote safe driving. The winner, in addition to receiving a $1,000 scholarship, will also have their video aired on cable as a public service announcement.
Helping to Prevent Distracted Driving
The Husband & Wife Law Team Viral Video Scholarship Contest is now into its second year, and open for submissions from all Arizona students. Alexis and Mark Breyer, also known as Arizona’s The Husband & Wife Law Team, have sponsored the contest in an effort to promote safe driving.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2009, 16% of fatal crashes and 20% of injury car accidents were related to distracted driving (Distraction.gov). In addition, NHTSA data demonstrates that teens are at a heightened risk for distracted driving accidents, as 40% of American teens have reported being in a car in which the driver was using a cell phone in a way that endangered those around and in the car.
“We want to spread the message that distracted driving is a real epidemic. Many teens are in denial that an accident could happen to them, but the truth is that using a cell phone is as bad as, if not worse, than drinking and driving. Distracted driving can delay reaction time as much as someone with a blood alcohol concentration level at the legal limit of .08,” personal injury specialist, Mark Breyer shared.
Attorney Alexis Breyer chimed in, “As our own children get older and start reaching the driving age, the issue hits even closer to home.”
All Arizona students are eligible to enter the contest. Videos must be about safe driving, in the style of a public service announcement. The winning video will be aired on cable television as a public service announcement sponsored by The Husband & Wife Law Team. The deadline for submissions is March 31st, 2012.
