Arizona serious injury and wrongful death lawyers, Mark and Alexis Breyer, of The Husband & Wife Law Team, were happy to sponsor the second year of the Viral Video Scholarship Contest for the 2011-2012 school year.
This year's contest was open to all Arizona students. The grand prize was a scholarship of $1000 and the winning video will be featured as a public service announcement on cable television.
Together, Mark and Alexis are proud to announce that this year's video contest winners are Chris Cole, a 19-year-old Arizona State University student majoring in Journalism with a minor in Film, and Adam Galen, a Business major with a minor in Film at Arizona State University.
Chris and Adam's video, "Anything's Possible," balanced drama and humor, using zombies as an example of possible distractions on the road. He got some help from a few friends, both alive and "undead," in making his short film.
His message was, "When it comes to distractions on the road, contestants Adam Galen [...] and [Chris] Cole acknowledge the fact that anything is possible. Yes, even zombies. With that in mind, drivers shouldn't allow things they have control over to distract them on the road."
Congratulations again to the 2011-2012 Husband & Wife Law Team Viral Video Scholarship Contest Winners, Chris Cole and Adam Galen!
Promoting Safety
Award winning injury attorneys Mark and Alexis Breyer are well known throughout Arizona for their top verdicts, settlements, and community involvement. At the bottom of it all, they are always looking to promote a safety message.
"While we have helped hundreds of people after they have suffered a life-changing injury or loss, we would prefer to prevent those negligent acts in the first place," Mark Breyer stated.
"I hate seeing people hurt due to negligence that could have been prevented. That's why we are out in the community, trying to create awareness through programs such as our Viral Video Scholarship Contest," Alexis shared.
The contest was started last year with the goal of raising awareness about distracted driving among some of the most at-risk drivers; teens and young adults.
An estimated 5,474 fatalities were caused by distracted drivers in 2009, and an additional 448,000 suffered injuries in distraction-related accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Forty percent of teens reported that they had been in a car when the driver used a cell phone, putting passengers, pedestrians, and others on the road in danger (NHTSA).
"With our kids approaching the driving age, this issue hits closer to home every year. We hope this Scholarship Contest will create more conversations with teens, parents, and peers to reduce the number of distracted driving accidents," Alexis said.
