Short Essay
I intend to use what I learn in college to better myself as a person and to help others do the same. Going to college, regardless of what I will be studying and what I will be majoring in, is something I am looking forward to experience with others. College gives an opportunity to gain not only academic knowledge, but knowledge that I can apply to my own life. This insight includes how to be an independent, confident, and mature adult - wisdom that is valuable.
College life requires being able to collaborate with others, such as fellow students. Working on group projects in school helps me learn how to divide work up with a team, be responsible for my own part, and listen to and help others. Being able to work in a team is not only a great skill in the classroom, but it is also a crucial skill for life. Collaborative projects and teamwork are necessary in the workforce and in adulthood.
"Leadership boosts self-confidence, the ability to be active, and the chance to inspire others. Leaders are more than just people who boss others around: they guide their peers and take initiative." - Andrea P.
Going hand in hand with teamwork is the ability to communicate. Learning how to effectively communicate with your peers is a skill that can be learned in college. Group projects, public speaking, writing, and being immersed in the community can all boost strong communication. This is a necessity because it helps people to share their ideas and thoughts with the world and people around them, which is something I do a lot of the time.
Another very valuable strength is leadership. Something many people do in college is shape who they are to become as adults, and this personal development can empower oneself to lead or nurture others. Leadership boosts self-confidence, the ability to be active, and the chance to inspire others. Leaders are more than just people who boss others around: they guide their peers and take initiative. The college experience is perfect for learning to lead. It provides the opportunity to have a role in the community and make big decisions.
"Being active in college in areas besides the classroom can enrich my life. I intend to use what I learn in college to improve the quality of my social skills, working habits, and self." - Andrea P.
If somebody only has what they learned in regards to their major when they graduate from college and enter the workforce, it will be very hard for them because there is more to embarking on a career than knowing the technicalities of their work. While academic knowledge is important in its respective field, an understanding of how the real world works is a prowess that encompasses more than any single line of work. This is because resumes, interviews, and maintaining a job all require social skills. Employers are likely looking for competent, emotionally mature people, not just people who can do a task. Going to college and becoming active in the campus’ community presents an amazing possibility to better one’s important social skills and develop maturity.
One reason I am looking forward to college is because it will give me a chance to be independent and learn from others. I am excited to actively participate in extracurriculars because I enjoy interacting with others very much. Being active in college in areas besides the classroom can enrich my life. I intend to use what I learn in college to improve the quality of my social skills, working habits, and self.
