Short Essay
In the fall, I will be attending the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and majoring in Musical Theater. I plan to use that degree to work in the theater industry, but I could see myself in other career fields as well since there are many different things that I am passionate about, like fashion, politics, and mental health. I plan to use what I learn from my degree about theater in whatever career I go into. For example, instead of using what I learn to understand a character I'm playing on stage, I could use the empathy I learned from character studies to help me understand people more and maybe become a therapist or something. From learning to sing and dance, I will learn so many other life skills that aren't just related to theater. By going to school for theater, I will become more comfortable with public speaking and being in front of crowds, which will help me with whatever job I have and not just theater. Public speaking and time management are going to be important in any job I have, and I feel that after college I will be prepared to do these things in my job. I plan to also work on my time management skills in college since I will be going to class, doing homework, living away from home for the first time, and working. That will help me, no matter what career field I go into. I plan to take everything I learn from my college experience, even if it's not in a classroom, and use it in my future career.

For college, I will be moving to New York City, I've never lived in that big of a city before, so I think this move will help me to be more adaptable and more independent in my life, which I will also take with me to whatever job I have in the future. Living in a new city and going to college is going to help me learn to live in a new place and make new friends and still manage going to school.

Theater has made me a better person already because it has pushed me outside of my comfort zone, taught me how to work well with others, and how to get things done well by a deadline. Those are all skills that I'm hoping to continue working on in college and use in whatever career I go into. I already have taken things that I’ve learned from being involved in theater and used them in my school life, job, and personal life. I am so excited to see how continuing my theater education in college continues to push me to be a better person. Theater has already taught me so much and there are so many ways that I already apply what I have learned from theater to my life, but I can't wait to learn more about theater and see how it applies to even non theater-related jobs that I might have in the future.
