With the help of Principal Melissa Molzhon as well as District Coordinator Melissa Ganas at North Canyon High School, The Husband & Wife Law Team presented a wonderful and deserving recipient with their monthly Teacher Appreciation Award. Courtney Thompson was surprised in front of the whole student body at the school’s homecoming rally. Mark was welcomed with open arms as he expressed the importance of teachers and how few receive the recognition they deserve. Courtney received a standing ovation as she was presented her award. Courtney was in shock, but she was even more surprised when she noticed her stepfather, mother, and brother had flown from Washington and Chicago to witness the ceremony. Mark surprised Courtney with a $250 check and a plaque for her classroom. However, the surprises didn’t stop there. Mark then doubled her money, and Courtney was awarded a total of $500. She was humbled when she was told that she would be featured on The Husband and Wife billboards throughout the Valley for a day.
Courtney Thompson, North Canyon High School
Growing up, Courtney loved to learn. She thrived on attention from her big brother, always wanting to know more than he did. She would even study his spelling words in addition to her own. Writing and vocabulary always came easy to Courtney. When she graduated from high school, she attended the University of Iowa where, before her second year of college, she decided to switch her major from ultrasound technology to teaching. She later transferred colleges and attended the University of Dubuque where she graduated in 2010. She began teaching in Germany and spent time in northern Arizona on the Navajo Nation. She is now in her eighth year of teaching and sixth year at North Canyon High School. She is also in her fourth year teaching AVID and her second year as a PBIS coordinator. Teaching and working alongside students truly is Courtney’s passion!
